A dancer from the Queensland Ballet comes and facilitates a music and movement session with each group, often based on storytelling.
Hello Africa
Sunday, an African drummer from Nigeria brings his drums and explores African culture with the children. It’s loud and fun and encourages the children to ask questions about Sunday’s life when he was a child.
Wendy Rix Art
We were so grateful to invite Wendy, an Aboriginal artist who is a descendent of the Noongaburrah people, to be our Artist in Residence in 2022. Wendy and the children brainstormed ideas for a mural that was created and mounted on the back of the fence of the Kindy. A truly collaborative piece. In following years Wendy comes to facilitate art workshops with the children.
Excursions
Ashgrove Library Visit
Each group of children had a visit by a librarian from the Ashgrove Library. The librarian read stories and gave information about our local library and all that it offers. Many of our children visit the library at different times so connect very positively to reading and literacy.
Farm Visit
A big day where all the children, teachers and some parents catch the bus out to Trevena Glen Farm at Samford. Tractor rides, horse riding, feeding goats, sheep and chickens. A wonderful opportunity for the children to connect with nature and different animals, all in a safe and positive environment. A really fun day!
Geckoes Wildlife
A wildlife company brings their many Australian animals to kindy to show us and the children have the opportunity to touch them and ask many questions. Some children may be a little anxious but it’s an opportunity for the teachers to help those to regulate their emotions in a safe and secure environment.
Indigenous Insights and Cultural Inclusions visits
The children have the opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. They ask many questions and are involved in storytelling, dancing and music making and sometimes cooking.
